Stanford University Research on SKY Schools in 2022
SKY Schools Program for the Bay Area partnered with Dr. K.J.S. Anand from Stanford University to test the efficacy of the SKY Schools curriculum on 7th grade children in The Renaissance Academy (at Fischer). Dr. Anand will use novel biomarkers of childhood wellness to assess the impact of SKY Schools training on the stress, social isolation, and racial discrimination experienced by 12-14 year-old children in early adolescence. In a program for “Research on the Structural Racism, Social Injustice and Health Disparities in Maternal and Child Health”, this project was awarded a $35,000 grant from Stanford’s Maternal & Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI) for a pilot study showing the effects of SKY breathing on perceived stress and social isolation, and on the academic and health outcomes of children & adolescents. This project is slated to start October 2021 and will be completed at the end of the school year.
SKY Breathwork and SEL Wellness to
Uplifting School Staff, Youth (K-12) and Parents
SKY Schools is an evidence-based, SEL (Casel-related*), self-mastery and leadership curriculum for youth (K-12) and adults, teaching powerful breathing techniques and interactive awareness processes to reduce stress, improve focus, energy and mental health, while uplifting qualities such as responsibility, commitment, compassion, service, and cooperation. Over the last 15 years, we’ve worked with over 17,000 students/school staff/parents in Silicon Valley (300,000 worldwide).
Our curriculum integrates transformative physiological breathing practices with a powerful, experiential and fun social-emotional learning curriculum to create a highly effective tool for supporting student success, reducing conflict/apathy and nurturing a positive, supportive, happier school climate and culture. In implementation, we find that the strongest start is to work with the leadership and teachers first, offering the SKY Breathwork and Wellness Workshop, which addresses and alleviates staff stress, boosts team morale, and promotes a positive attitude that supports a healthy learning environment, paving the way to work directly with the students. We offer a SKY Coaching program which trains Teachers/Social Workers/Counselors to facilitate simple, yet powerful breathing techniques which calm the mind and emotions of youth and adults alike.
*SKY Schools is recognized in the CASEL’s Guide to Effective Social and Emotional Learning (link) as an SEL-related program. The designation is given to innovative programs on educational practice that are aligned with social and emotional learning and can contribute to systemic SEL implementation at the school or district levr
